This past Sunday, I was able to catch one of the last performances of The Washington Ballet‘s rendition of Sleepy Hollow. The show ran for 5 days at The Kennedy Center. My first introduction of this was actually through Design Army‘s AHH-MAZING video trailer for the performance. What caught my attention first was, of course, the costume design. But, what solidified my need to go was my love of literature. I have been the biggest bookworm for as long as I can remember. In college, I was a lit major- I spent my nose in books everyday for four years. And I have a sweet spot in my heart for any and all American Classics.
The Washington Ballet did such a great job interpreting this short story and I left the theater excited and wanting to go home to reread Irving’s classic tale. The best part was the witches. They were so beautifully spooky and they played the part so well. There were also some hidden surprises (hello, baby ballerinas!) and the set design was gorgeous! Ballets are honestly so mesmerizing. If you have never been, make sure you go at least once in your life. You will not regret it.
Since there was no photography allowed, here are a few snaps from The Washington Ballet’s Facebook page. And be sure to catch any other performance they put on, they are seriously so talented. Next on my list to see is Alice in Wonderland!
